Sardegna: la Punta e l'Isola piana

At about 3 and a half miles north of Carloforte lies the promontory of Punta, in the extreme north of the Island of San Pietro. On the east coast in the area of Tacca Rossa the seabed is rocky and low alternating the presence of poseidonia and white sand. A little further north there are the remains of 2 ancient factories for tuna fishing, and one is still operational. Less than a mile east there is the Piana Island which houses a beautiful holiday resort built on the ruins of an ancient factory for tuna fishing dated back to 1698. Nearby there is the Island of Ratti rich in vegetation and reefs. The beauty of the Baia Lunga dotted with small rocks and sharp rocks is very striking, and it is also peculiar the deep seabed. Soon after this area starts a very particular stretch of coastline, Tacche Bianche where the white rocks alternates with parts of reddish brown lava.

In Santa Irene bay, near Tropea in Calabria, there is the Murenario which is a white flat rock, an ancient Roman fishpond. It is an old fishing system still used by local fishermen. Within the rock there are tanks connected by channels where fish were driven with the help of nets. Same few feet away there are remainings of tanks where the fish was left to be salted and dried.

In the lovely bay of Conca dei Marini there is the Emerald Cave also called the Gem of the Coast. It was once above the sea level and the peculiar color of the water is due to impressive games of light. In the cave there are thin stalactites and are present formations of stalagmites as well, which give the idea of being inside an ancient temple. Absolutely not to be missed is the submerged Nativity in Vietri ceramics that every Christmas is visited by many divers from all over Italy.

The Fjord of Furore in Calabria is a marvel created by the expert hand of nature. A peculiar gorge in the mountain that continues its fall down below sea level. The contrast between the colour of the rock and the deep blue of the sea is wonderfully suggestive. The actress Anna Magnani fell in love with the Fjord and bought a house there called ”La Villa della Storta”, just after the shooting of the film “Amore”; a Federico Fellini creation. The Village of the Fjord is formed by the fishermen’s houses clinging to one another and embedded in the rock. In the past locals carried out activities such as the milling of wheat and the paper mill which have now turned out to become interesting museums.

Amalfi: arte, storia, natura e tradizioni

As soon as the visitor gets to Amalfi is perfectly aware of the important role that the sea has played in the history of the city, and that still persists. This is demonstrated by the fact that its port is in correspondence of the city center. From the port, through small streets you can reach the heart of Amalfi where the Duomo is located. It was dedicated to Saint Andrew and its foundations dated back the tenth century. There is a large and impressive stair that leads to the structure which faces the Saint Andrew Square. Over the centuries the Duomo suffered so many rearrangements that the internal decorations date back to the eighteenth century, while the sumptuous bronze doors are genuine. From the Duomo you can access to the Basilica of the Holy Crucifix which was built in the sixth century on an early Christian temple. Today the remains of the temple have been brought to light infact you can admire the columns that in the past supported the central nave. From here you can reach the Saint Andrew’s Crypt which contains his remains arrived from Patrasso during the 4th Crusade. Continuing the path there is the Cloister of Paradise, an enchanting arabian construction of the thirteenth century. Finally, it is worth visiting the ancient arsenal of the Republic of Amalfi which is the only surviving example of medieval shipyard. The Museum is located in the Flavio Gioia Square along the sea promenade of Amalfi from where can be seen distinctly the Tower of San Francesco built in order to defend the city from the pirate raids.

In Umbria you learn to know the meaning of beauty. Umbria is the heart of Italy, but not simply for its geographical position. The region’s wealth of natural and artistic wonders seems almost inexhaustible. Travelling the roads of Umbria is a journey full of surprises, continuously suspended between the signs of a well-preserved past and a vocation for the future that is entirely new, bringing to light a region that is live and exquisitely beautiful. Umbria today, reinventing itself fashionable but without overdoing it, has much to offer visitors: sport, culture, museums, epicurean delights, healing waters, and musical events of international renown.
At the end of the journey, one thing is certain: Umbria has a true vocation for beauty.

We would like to introduce you to the charm of the “Veneto: from the earth to the sky” and the excellence of this territory, the most welcoming region in Italy and the first in terms of tourism.
Art cities, sea, mountains, parks, lakes and spas may be enough for a dream vacation … but this region also has other surprises to be discovered.
For example, there are five places in the Veneto region that have won prestigious acknowledgement from UNESCO and are included in the list of the World Heritage Sites. These include Venice and its lagoon, Verona, the Botanical Gardens of Padua, Vicenza, the Palladian Villas of the Veneto and the Dolomites. The Dolomites were the last to receive acknowledgement on June 26th 2009.
There are other “gems of beauty” to be found in this region such as our fairy-tale like scenery, rolling hills, history and tradition, churches, fortified villages, frescoed palaces, villas, piazzas and arcades, and a countless number of pieces of art that are waiting for you to discover them.

I Sacri Monti in Piemonte e Lombardia

UNESCO registered in 2003, on the list of World Heritage Sites, the “Cultural Landscape of the Sacred Mountains of Piemonte and Lombardy” with this motivation: “The nine Sacri Monti (Sacred Mountains) of northern Italy are groups of chapels and other architectural features created in the late 16th and 17th centuries and dedicated to different aspects of the Christian faith. In addition to their symbolic spiritual meaning, they are of great beauty by virtue of the skill with which they have been integrated into the surrounding natural landscape of hills, forests and lakes. They also house much important artistic material in the form of wall paintings and statuary.”.
The seven Sacred Mounts of Piemonte (Belmonte, Crea, Domodossola, Ghiffa, Oropa, Orta and Varallo) and the two of Lombardia (Ossuccio and Varese), show an extraordinary value of history, of art and of nature.
The series of chapels, which, with statues, paintings and frescos tell episodes and mysteries of sacred life, merge with the welcoming environmental surroundings, and contribute to define the features of each monumental complex. Valuable examples of landscape architecture, the Sacred Mounts are important meeting places for the faithful and for lovers of art.
