Strada panoramica da Bosa ad Alghero

A sunny mid-spring morning, a short trip between the small medieval city of Bosa and the city of Alghero on the panoramic road hugging the coast. Two simple ingredients for a delightful experience involving all your senses. The intense scent of the Mediterranean scrub that covers the rocky hills, the spectacular views over the totally undeveloped countryside, the numerous beaches, some sandy, some formed of rock sculpted into exotic flowing and jagged shapes with natural swimmable pools. Breathtaking…

Sardegna: Cala Razzadigiunco

After passing Portisco and its peninsula we find Cala Razzadigiunco. Its beaches are pristine and uncrowded because hardly reachable. They are surrounded by lush and wild vegetation overlooking the emerald waters. The beach in the norther part, is one of the most beautiful. The beach on the southern part called Arena Bianca is the most visited. Cala Petra Ruja and Liscia Ruja two beaches north from Cala Razzadigiunco are characterised from the peculiar reddish of the sand due to the disintegration of the granitic rocks throughout the area which create dreamy views.

Sardegna: Porto Rotondo

The small archipelago of Mortorio is located off the Bay of Porto Rotondo, it is attached to the natural park of Maddalena and it is renowned for its clear waters and stunning backdrops. Its name derives from the rather curious fact that in the eighteenth century human remains were found probably as a result of naval medieval battles. The largest island of Mortorio is valued for the crystal clear waters and white sand beaches and colonies of rare seabirds that nest there. The hinterland is rich in vegetation known as mediterranean scrub and gorse. The bays are all well sheltered from the wind giving the chance to always bathing in calm waters. The western part of the island offers white and very fine sand while the eastern part pebbles and pink rocks due to the presence of granite. Mortariotto which is the outer reef is suggested to those who love diving. The smallest is the island of Soffio, a flat rock with rocky coves and shallow waters. Not far away there are the islets of the Camere characterised by rugged pink coastlines. The most popular is called the Piscine which is an area surrounded by rocks just like a natural bath tub with sandy bottom.

Caposandalo stands on the westernmost tip of the island of San Pietro at about 9 miles from Carloforte and 180 miles from Africa. Its entire coast overlooking the sea, with sharp and threatening rocks detached from the mountain, gives it an austere and inaccessible look. The entire island is the result of an ancient crater and it is demonstrated by the gorge shaped like a funnel made of prisms of rock. The whole area falls in the natural park of LIPU, an important reservoir where particular species of sea birds nest or stop. Half a mile from the coast of Caposandalo the rocky islet of Corno, 15 meters high, appears before our eyes. It is surrounded by deep waters and with a shoal to the north where it is possible to dive.

At about 3 and a half miles north of Carloforte lies the promontory of Punta, in the extreme north of the Island of San Pietro. On the east coast in the area of Tacca Rossa the seabed is rocky and low alternating the presence of poseidonia and white sand. A little further north there are the remains of 2 ancient factories for tuna fishing, and one is still operational. Less than a mile east there is the Piana Island which houses a beautiful holiday resort built on the ruins of an ancient factory for tuna fishing dated back to 1698. Nearby there is the Island of Ratti rich in vegetation and reefs. The beauty of the Baia Lunga dotted with small rocks and sharp rocks is very striking, and it is also peculiar the deep seabed. Soon after this area starts a very particular stretch of coastline, Tacche Bianche where the white rocks alternates with parts of reddish brown lava.
